My name is Stephanie. I am a lover of books and a mother of young children. I teach a home preschool for 2 and 3 year olds. I love to plan story times or other activities based around books. I love finding new picture books and chapter books to read with my kids. I also read a quite a few children’s novels on my own that my kids aren’t old enough for yet in addition to reading young adult books and adult fiction and non-fiction. I love sharing what I’ve found with others and hearing what they’ve discovered as well- so please chime in with any recommendations and thoughts!
I HAD PARENTS WHO READ TO ME
The name of my website was inspired by this line from Strickland Gillilan’s poem: “You may have tangible wealth untold; Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be– I had a mother who read to me.”
I’ve thought about how much my parents have influenced and shaped my life through all the reading they have done with me. I have many fond memories of laying in bed listening as my dad read to me in his animated voices and sometimes getting choked up on stories that touched him. And my mom was the one who taught me to read. She instilled a love of libraries through taking me often to pick out books and participate in programs that appealed to me. She would write down lists of all the chapter books in the series I was reading so I could check them off as I went and she could request interlibrary loans of the books our small town library didn’t carry.
I WANT TO BE A MOTHER WHO READS
As I became a mother I knew I wanted to give that same experience to my kids, and it ended up being even more fulfilling than I imagined. Through countless hours of reading with my kids and planning letter of the week lessons and story time events for them, I have seen that love of stories constantly grow in them. We have strengthened our relationship through that special time together and I have seen their knowledge and understanding of the world expand
